oops, sorry about that, I’m so used to hitting enter it just happened!
anyway … was going to say that I’m not really freaked out … just a little amazed (and pretty happy about it too)
I did a quick calculation this morning … I have (or WE have, I should say) 199 sleeps to the wedding ….. WOW!
It’s very cool
, I’m very excited …. there’s a lot to get done, but my parents are doing an awesome job, and Mr Tasmania and I are chugging along with the rest, one thing at a time, it’s all going swimmingly (especially when you consider we’ve been engaged just 2 1/2 weeks) …. it’s all working really well.
I will have to sort something out about a dress sooner rather than later … but the way everything has been working it’s just so easy to see God’s hand on the whole thing … even down to timing of other events in family life which could/will have an impact on wedding arrangements (oddly enough, everyone else’s life still goes on despite our wedding …. funny that!), so, while I"m not just expecting the perfect dress to appear on my doorstep, I am confident that I will find the perfect dress without too much trauma. Just as Mr Tasmania will find the prefect suit
ah … God … honestly, how could you do it without him ![]()

chugging along
25/05/2006
Not much to report really …
Chugging along quite nicely at work, aim is to get a lot of things finished/out of the way before I start working on my job description and we can start advertising/interviewing for my replacement.
BroBoss has decided we will be moving the office as well before I go, so am starting to work on that as well.
Flatmate responsible for potential plumbing/expensive debacle as fixed schemozzle and apologised – I will name no names – apology is quite a miracle actually, prayer works! [like you didn't know
]
Other flatmate who has been spinning out of control for last fortnight has realised that running around in dizzy circles making silly noises is not actually achieving anything and has started doing things ONE THING AT A TIME … funny how life starts making sense when you just start working your way through each thing … sufficient unto the day is not such a bad motto!
Wedding things are coming along – we have church, pastor, reception venue, engagement party, engagement notices organised, and I’m pretty sure I’ve got an invitation design down … and we’ve almost settled on the guest list (Mr Tasmania is a very organised bod – hooray!) … all the other bits are in research, searching stage … and some decisions made ie we won’t (at this point) be having bonbonniere (that’s favors to any American’s reading) … I have a beautiful packaging design but can’t actually think of anything I want to put in it that isn’t cheap, cheesy, or both … so will just let that one go for the moment unless something fabulous springs to mind at a later date.
Otherwise, life is good, I changed my bedroom around last night and now have a very large area in the middle so that’s as good as a holiday … and it’s only 9 sleeps ‘tiil Mr Tasmania is here for a WHOLE FORTNIGHT! That’s almost as much time as we’ve spent in each others presence in our whole relationship
… can’t wait!

that’s through slightly gritted teeth ….
ah, flatmates …..
okay, enough of that, on to less annoying people
or the weather …. we have had a ’slight’ cold snap … as Yay mention, this will probably mean nothing to those in cooler climes … and generally Sydney ‘Winter’ doesn’t have much of an affect on this mountain girl … but when you’ve been sailing through lovely 20 – 24C days and then are suddenly plunged into 8C with adjusted wind chill type temp at the airport at 7pm last night at 2.8C!!!! Crikey, that’s a bit of a drop!!!
Coldest place in the state at 5pm yesterday, apart from the Snowy Mountains where it was snowing (duh!), was a little place called Moss Vale … about 20mins from my parents place. Moss Vale hit around 7C at 5pm … adjusted to -2.7C … yes that’s right, that was a MINUS! Crikey George, that’s ridiculous …. but good fodder for those of us who like discussing the weather
So, to all those who think Sydney permanently basks in warm weather, specifically designed to burn poor Northerners to a frazzle … think again ….
Of weddings and organisation
22/05/2006
I’m a little brain dead today, though am chugging through work quite happily, which is great, achievement is good!
Saturday The Valkyrie and I set out to Peters of Kensington, a fabulous shop in Sydney, to commence the Bridal Registry. It was a very pleasant experience
which I thoroughly enjoyed … but a bit of a bu*ger not having Mr Tasmania there … both because it’s for OUR wedding and so I could get his opinion on various items … we will be going there when he’s up here in June though, so I guess it works out. Items which caused me bother were little things such as salt/pepper shakers … I don’t like wooden ones, but what does he like? So I left them off the list … we can always add them later
We then went to Bondi Junction to investigate the big centre there … which was great, and I bought lots of cheap CD’s and some lovely crusty rye bread … then home. I ended up taking a few plants across to the parents, who were babysitting The Wunderkind for the weekend. I may have mentioned I can’t take my plants to Tasmania .. I’m not heartbroken, as they will all go to good homes .. and I get the fun of starting a new garden/or adding to existing gardens – love it!
Sunday was church (in which our engagement notice appeared in the church newsletter – very nice!), then off to Myer (major department store) to start another Bridal Registry. I don’t want it to sound like I/we’re greedy … just that they both stock quite different things and cover different areas … and PoK is known for bargains in areas that Myer cost a fortune … and it’s nice to give people lots of options
. I then had lunch with mum and The Wunderkind, then visited Matchmaker and The Amazon, then finally got home around 6pm … just about ready for bed! Throughout all this I have wedding plan discussions with parents, both sets of siblings, and constant talking with Mr Tasmania on the mobile. None of which I object to, in fact I’m loving it, but it’s tiring!
Was very nice to sit down and read the paper last night for an uninterrupted hour …. I will finish it tonight!
Interesting relationships …
19/05/2006
I’ve been pondering the different relationships people have … and mine has just been brought home to me … not in a bad way I hasten to add, just in an interesting way.
Deeleea has just emailed me to see if I want to go see The Da Vinci Code tonight or tomorrow. I haven’t seen it, and would love to, but am going to go and see it with Mr Tasmania in June when he’s here for a fortnight …
I have no problem with waiting
, it’ll be the first time we’ve been to the movies together … hence the pondering …
- we’re engaged and we’ve never been to the movies together …
- we’ve spent 17 days together (that’s including first date of approx 3 hours and 2nd date of approx 2.5 hours)
- he lives 1200km’s away (luckily The Amazon can relate … she was in a serious relationship with a Canadian – wins the distance comp hands down!)
I’m not complaining about any of the above, he is my soulmate and this is a completely blessed relationship – as a benefit of the distance, for example, we have a very open communication style, from having spent so much time on the phone/email … you have to be very clear and honest otherwise things can get tricky very quickly on the phone, so we have no trouble communicating at all. Some couples don’t get that sort of clarity for YEARS, if ever, so it’s the silver lining in the distance.
I just think relationships are interesting.
Mind you … if Deeleea wants to go and see X:Men 3 next week I’m up for it!
Date setting etc
17/05/2006
It’s all go … we’ve set the date for 16 December …
so now I have a timetable … wow, how much fun is this!
Thank you to all for your lovely words, much appreciated by both of us, what good friends you all are
…. sorry no possibilities of having a wedding in the UK
… but we will be travelling to the UK in June next year for the wedding of two other friends (The Somersets) so may well be able to hook up with some wibblers then? Hopefully?
And yes, Ian, there are Bunnings in Tasmania … and plenty of Mitre 10 and other hardware stores … not to mention shoe stores! so I will be well looked after! Indeed, Mr Tasmania combined my two loves on during my Easter Trip, by rushing me into a local hardware/produce store, sitting me down, and buying me a pair of Blundstone Boots – is this man good or what! Hardware AND shoes …. too good! Not to mention the personal fitting service
…. funny, I felt very small and petite (which I"m not, abundant would be the word best used to describe me … with fabulously broad shoulders) … maybe being demoted from a Size 8 shoe to a Size 5 blundstone boot is what did it!
Okay, back to work, lots to do!!!!!!!!
yep … organisation … I’m just ‘girding my loins’ and taking a few deep breaths ’cause it’s all on for the next few months!
Not just wedding bits …. but I will be leaving my job (which means working out job descriptions, writing down all my processes and making allowances for the ones which are not going to be able to be done in quite the same way by someone who is not the boss’s sister, discussing with the Broboss what he wants in a new person, advertising, running interviews, training a new person, finalising all the bits I want finished before I leave etc), and moving to Tasmania …. 1200km’s away.
The distance isn’t a problem, my mum reminded me that when she and dad first married it was a 6 hour drive from where they lived back to Sydney to see both sets of parents … at least I’ll have Mr Tasmania’s family within 20mins drive and even with airport waiting times it’s still only 4 or so hours to get back to visit my lot (even quicker to see just the Sydney lot).
The problem? or not really a problem, just the stuff to deal with? All my c*ap! I’m 35 … I have lived by myself or shared accommodation since I was 18 … I have STUFF! And some of it’s really GOOD stuff so I’m not just going to leave it behind or give it to the Salvo’s (Salvation Army) (I will be leaving a few couches’ behind and a couple of cupboards). It’s not a Bad thing, I’m not upset by it, it’s actually going to be quite fun, being ruthless and chucking out/giving away bits and bobs … it’s just that I have to do it, not just think about it
. Once I get started, on a roll, it will be over quite quickly … just a matter of doing it …. actually, I think I’m starting to get excited now … I might get started tonight!
Funny, I wonder if it’s just a girly thing or because I come from a family that is fighting the pack rat gene with all it’s might … but I have lots of things that have been hauled around for years from residence to residence, bedroom to bedroom, just because I have them … they live in boxes, never seeing the light of day, and never will …. sentimental bits, knick knacks I’ve been given or thought were cute on a white elephant stall (for 5c!), magazines with interesting stories, mountains of recipes ‘I will get to one day’ … if I was moving to a house in Sydney they’d probably just come with … but I’m moving to Tasmania ….
I’m getting very excited now! Do you think the BroBoss would notice if I went out for a coffee break and didn’t come back?
PS …. we booked the church yesterday ….. I’m changing my dad’s name from SuperDad to the Sergeant-Major! He’s a man with a mission and we don’t want to get in his way!
…. gotta love it that my dad’s fully into weddings …. as is Mr Tasmania … so many men are portrayed as either bumbling about and getting in the way or sitting back wanting nothing to do with it … these two gorgeous very manly men are both fully getting into the fun of it and the joy of it, for all the right reasons – they both love me … and I love them both!!! Am I blessed or what!
