I’m over it, I’m sure you are too, so (unless it’s a completely shocking day) that’s it, no more talking about packing anything!

On a lighter note, I have just finished a weeklong pasta fest …. the cafe we frequent (near work) has had as a special this week spaghetti boscaiola and penne carbonara … sometimes you just have to give in … I reckon 5 days of it will see me through to at least March 07 though, so that’s okay :)

It’s nearly mid-Spring now, so the urge to make big beautiful cous cous salads, green salads, roast vegie salads is almost overwhelming – yay!

My boy is a Caesar salad sans dressing fiend … I’m a lover of them too but need a little bit of dressing – mmmm creamy garlickness, yummo! What’s your favourite salad?

Personally I love a really good egg bacon and potato salad … but I only make it for spesh as it’s incredibly fattening (that’d be the sour cream dressing!) …. how about you?

But not me, technically, the office.

Today is big packup day …. and then the big move tomorrow.

Luckily I can only do a couple of hours as I have an eye test and then my second dress fitting …. last time the BroBoss and I put in 12+ hours … this time all the guys can help and there will be at least 6 guys going at it, so will be a lot less painful I reckon!

It’s the long weekend in Oz this weekend – so cheers until Tuesday (assuming the computers are working then!)

An update on The Angel’s mum – she had the op and removed most of the cancer so she is still a very sick lady. She is home though, which is great.

I’ve just been copied in on an email from one of my ex flatmates … poor girl! She’s been working her butt off the last two months to try and find another flatmate to replace me but every person she has suggested has been rejected by one or two of the others – often without even meeting the person.

She’s just sent round an email saying she’s washing her hands of it, after her last person was rejected by two flatmates without a meeting – she’s going to pay her normal (5 person divided) rate of rent and she’s basically said the others can sort it all out it’s nothing to do with her …. WOW!

I am so sorry for her.

I only want one flatmate now, and he’s permanent :)

Of space

27/09/2006

I have space ….. I have an entire two floor building to myself.

It has two bathrooms.

With showers AND bathtubs in each.

It has two kitchens.

It has two living rooms.

It has two dining rooms.

It has two balconies (front and back).

It has 3 entry doors (currently I use one to come in and one to go out – don’t ask).

It has a little front garden with a view to the ocean (the view from the front balcony is even better – because it’s from the 2nd story!).

It has a concrete backyard and astroturfed barbeque area.

It has a brother, a sister-in-law, a nephew, and a ‘potential’ next door.

It has a flatscreen TV with foxtel.

It has space and quiet and no flatmates.

I like my flatmates they are all great girls but I’m glad I don’t have to live with them anymore. Very glad. Because now they can be friends and not ‘children’ … and we will stay friends (I hope).

It has space and quiet and ocean air and I can breathe.

The only thing missing is my boy … but I guess you can take that one as a given :)

So, 12 days with my boy, they’ve been wonderful, far too short but still absolutely great!, we’ve done lots, talked lots, and just spent time together …. and now I’ve packed up, steam cleaned, put the final bit of sticky tape on boxes and left my abode of almost 4 years.

My stuff doesn’t head down to Tassie until 2nd week of October (unless the removalist calls me today and says he has room tomorrow) so it’s still in the garage … but I’m gone :)

I’m housesitting now in a beautiful large quiet house very near Curl Curl beach … it’s lovely! Luckily I had two days with Mr Tasmania there so he had an opportunity to see where I’m staying … he especially enjoyed the large flatscreen TV and Foxtel!!!

Anyway … he’s gone back to the cold of Tassie and I’m working away like a maniac as we prepare the office to move (again) this weekend. I also have an eye test Saturday am and another wedding dress fitting Saturday pm so it’s going to be busy! But then it’s off down to the parents place for the long weekend. The entire family will be there and it’s job on for a cleanup as my parents have had their new renovation plans approved, finally, by the Whingy Council, slowest council in the known universe.

It will be a very busy but very enjoyable weekend :)

I’ve just worked out that I will see Mr Tasmania for approximately 4.5 days before we get married in December … it’s almost medaeival!

I love steam cleaners, they are my friend :)

Yes (see comments previously) I am a very lucky girl and he is a lovely man who looks after me very well. It does take a little while to adapt from being completely independent to having someone want to look after you and do things for you … but I’m adapting :) He’s a joy.

We have nearly finished the packing, and I move into the housesitting ‘palace’ tonight – yay!!!! Mr Tasmania and a strong mate are going to move my enormous entertainment unit – it was not bought with moving in mind :) – tonight and I will do the final vacuum after we’ve ferried the stuff I have to keep with me for the next few months over to the palace … and then it’s up early early early Saturday to pick up a steam cleaner from woolies, tip the boy out at the golf course, then off to steam clean, final clean of bathroom, final spot clean of walls (who knew candles would leave such dark marks?), and a final clean of the pool and then I"m done, it’s over, I’m gone … 5 weeks short of 4 years.

It’s been a good house … I’ve had some interesting housemates, to say the least, and I’m very very tired of playing mum to 3 out of 5 of this lot, but I’m looking forward to new challenges, my new home in TAssie, and actually just being friends with my housemates, not endlessly frustrated :)

So, Tuesday night I had a little meltdown .. no yelling, no screaming, just the stresses of the last few months catching up with me. Mr Tasmania was an absolute rock, I was so glad he was there.

Off to work on Wednesday, got it all out of my system and the world is a rosier place … but what does my gorgeous boy do?

Texts me in the afternoon to say we’re going out on a date! A mystery date!

Picks me up and there are beautiful tulips waiting in the car.

Drives us down to Manly to the WockBar, one of my favourite restaurants, and we had a beautiful dinner.

We walked down to the ferry wharf, stopping for an icecream at Copenhagen Icecreams on the way (Midnight cookie + strawberry for him, cookies and cream for me, in waffle cones of course!), then onto the ferry and across to the city.

We walked around Circular Quay to The Rocks, checking out the giant cruise ship "The World" on the way …. looking at the restaurants, the MCA, The Bounty replica moored near Doyles Fish Restaurant, the Park Hyatt (what a view!) … and all the while it’s a beautiful balmy perfect Sydney Harbour night, with the seagulls flashing in and out of the lights above the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.

We walked back around to the Opera House, and sat on a chair and just watched the harbour for a little while.

Then back to the ferry and across to Manly.

Such a beautiful beautiful evening, and a gorgeous boy. How blessed am I!

I had a few days off to spend with my boy and pack things … thank you Jesus the packing is nearly done! I will be out of the house for good Saturday arvo …. steam cleaning etc that morning but then it’s done … and the place I’m housesitting in is beautiful (besides being next door to the broboss) so I’m going to really enjoy the five and a half weeks there!

yes, the sun is shining, hooray! My boy is here, hooray! I’m at work and he’s … out playing golf! I still have to say hooray, he’s had a long hard winter school term and deserves a good holiday! and I’ve got Friday/Monday/Tuesday off, so shouldn’t complain too much :)

I have new shoes … not high heels but they do have full bore instep support – yes, I’ve bought my first pair of Birkenstocks! In preparation for much walking during our trip to the UK in May/June 2007 (for a Jane Eyre’ish wedding in Somerset!) I have decided that I need well broken in walking shoes … and my mum and the amazon swear by them so thought I’d give them a go … anyone else like ‘em? They’re good so far, just walked from Neutral Bay in them (approx 1 km) and feel good at the end.

We lost two great Aussies in freak accidents in the last week, at least one of whom will be known to those in the UK and US:
Crocodiles – Steve Irwin, Crocodile Hunter and Peter Brock, King of the Mountain, race car driver.

Love him or hate him Steve Irwin had an impact … i must admit to rolling my eyes on occasion but he was what he was … and his enthusiasm and commitment to the environment were most definitely just him, not a show. I’ve been really disappointed in reading some comments from people who are upset that others may think that all Aussies say crikey, wear khaki, and speak in such a broad accent … well … a hell of lot of Aussies do say crikey and strewth, and do have a really broad accent – not so many wear khaki ALL the time ;) – interesting to note that most of the people who have had comments to make about ‘how we are perceived outside Australia’ live in the city ….

not that I’m trying to start a city country debate … just that it’s interesting ….

Mind you, Germaine Greer … honestly, can I just put up my hand here and say that we’ve disowned her? What a nasty disappointed miserable woman she is … it must be horrible to have been so intelligent and well thought of and radical and have taken that reputation and moved to England and turned into an irrelevant nasty old raver … sure, have an opinion .. but remember that the man has a grieving wife and two young children and you are a person who’s opinion will be broadcast often enough to cause them further pain and grief – just plain nasty!

And Peter Brock, killed in a freak car accident – maybe not so well known outside Australia unless you’re into cars … but a tragic end for an amazing driver and a well known Australian.
