two things which keep me going … one of which I have been stupidly neglecting of late … though my usual indicators of paleness under eyelids, fingernails, and general ‘whitiness’ of face have let me down.

so, the brain eventually kicked into gear, and the super mega dose iron tablet has been taken every day for 6 days so far .. the effect is being felt but still a ways to go … which tells me how far down I let those levels go … and the gradual disappearence of the ‘flat’ feeling I’ve had for nearly a month now is also an indication that I’d hit the stupidly low levels … mild depression is a clinical symptom of iron deficiency.

you’d think, 8 years later, I’d have it down pat by now … but no, I put it down to cold weather, winter blahs (Seasonal Affective Disorder), less exercise (I don’t walk the dog when it rains, Mr Tasmania metaphorically puts his cloak over the puddle and goes by himself), boredom at work, etc etc etc … and didn’t really do all that much to actually do anything about it … mind you, when mildly depressed, you don’t do anything about anything much …

so, I’ve proven myself to be a text book case of someone with fairly major but non life threatening chronic iron deficiency, who needs to pay much more attention to her body. ON the up side, Mr Tasmania has now watched the symptoms appear and disappear and will be able to hold me down and shove iron tablets down my apathetic neck if I let myself get anywhere near this stage again … so I guess that’s my silver lining :)

and coffee … I’d gone off it .. but I’m back on it now …and I’ve just put through an online order for our coffee pods for the coffee maker … 100 are on their way! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!

by the by, have cancelled the job interview for tomorrow – as I said, I’m not really looking to move, it was just one of those ‘why not’ moments to apply for it … and after a chat to my (new) accountant (also my new best friend as I”m getting the best return I’ve had in years!) we’ve figured out that I’m earning quite a deal more than I thought. Yay for working for a government funded non profit organisation in the aged care sector which allows a huge amount of salary sacrifice to go in directions other than superannuation! It rocks!!!!!!!!!!

we actually made it to church today … I think that’s the first time in about a month for various reasons .. was a good service too.

We spent yesterday moving furniture .. picked up a beautiful baltic pine dresser Mr Tasmania the bargain hunter had spotted last week. Transported it to the shed (see pic on my flickr site – Mrs Tasmania) and set it up. I then rearranged all our gear (mostly my gear) in one corner of the enormous shed so when all the other stuff which belongs to other people has been moved out (they’ve all been told to have it gone by the end of the year) we will have a nice neat pile of gear rather than a schemozzle.

After that went and picked up an entertainment unit from one of the twins and took it back to the shack – it has very nicely replaced the desk which the tv and assorted stereo gear sat on and wine bottles and assorted weights sat under. The wine bottles hide in the cupboard underneath, my bright red bowl and our silver IKEA candelabra sit on top and it’s BRILLIANT! Changes the look of that side of the loungeroom completely.

Walked ont he beach and collected giant cuttlefish to chuck on the driveway (to break down and fill in holes – it’s white as well, and the driveway is quite black at the moment, so it’ll liven it up). Unfortunately saw 4 dead seabirds – including two fairy penguins! -while we were walking on the beach – the weather has been wild!

Puppy (who weighed in yesterday at 28.6kg’s … Australian Cattle Dog [otherwise known as Blue Heeler (or red)] males are supposed to be 18 – 21kg’s fully grown. And he’s not fat. He’s just HUGE – but very cute – even though he was in disgrace this morning. He managed to barge his way through the gate to the backyard and chase a ute down the road … it was made VERY clear to him that I, the Alpha Female (ie the Queen Bit*h) of the house, was underwhelmed by this behaviour, and he was deposited very firmly back in his yard. He also learned that if you are a 30′ish kg dog and you’re pulling against a somewhat heavier :) female …. you don’t win.

Lesson learnt, he was a very good boy on our walk later in the afternoon.

I also pruned EVERYTHING … and the pile of stuff to burn is enormous .. and wet, so it will be a while before it gets done. Hopefully in the next week or two.

I also made my first apple cake … a layer of batter, apple mixture in the middle, layer of batter. Very very nice, Mr Tasmania enjoyed it immensely. It’s one of his favourites.

I’ve enjoyed my two flex days .. and now have to go back and ask for some time off next Monday … remember that job I applied for just because it was there? I’ve got an interview at 4pm next week. Interesting.

we didn’t get up until 9:30, oh yyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, it’s just very very exciting when you usually get up at 5:30am to walk the dog!!!!!

Anyhoo, the day started well with a sleep in then a call from my youngest brother to tell me that he’d sold his very very beautifully restored twin cab white Kombi ute (which he was very happy about) and that he was starting his new job in August – yay! This is great as, since they’ve moved back to the Highlands, he’s had 4 different jobs, and one abortive attempt at Uni, which all for various reasons have not worked out. This job sounds GREAT, it’s very him, he’s very excited, he gets a car :) (useful when you’ve just sold one) … and he sounded SO chipper on the phone, very very cheerful, upbeat, positive – SO GOOD.

Unfortunately (and I’m sure it applies no matter what place in the sibling order you are) I find that you don’t stop worrying about your little brothers even when said little brothers are both married (both for quite some time longer than me I might add!), fathers of two, and turning, respectively, 34 and 36 this year … I will ALWAYS be the big sister, even when we’re 98,96, and 94 (and you know I fully intend getting to that age … unless we’re raptured of course, in which case it’s been taken out of my hands and I think at that stage I’ll be pretty sure they’ll be alright!).

So anyway, after finally getting up, breakfasting, and getting out of the house, we drove to Mr Tasmania’s school and picked up the door for the toilet room in the shed at the Block. We then went back to the Block and installed the door. It looks very cool, the toilet room has been painted bright sunny yellow and the door is bright red :)

We then went and picked up 1m of bark mulch to continue with the mulching of the grevilleas down the driveway – we’re halfway now and it’s looking great. Some of the grevilleas are in flower at the moment too so it’s all very lovely.

of flexing

18/07/2008

flex time from work that is, not flexing the body … though I could do with some of that too, because my body is feeling old today. .. I have somehow managed to pull a muscle down my left side, from under the rib cage to my hip … do not ask me how I managed to do that SITTING IN A CHAIR ALL DAY at work …. I plead aliens .. it must be their fault … it was certainly nothing to do with me!

Anyhoo … back to flexing off work … this is what I will be doing Monday and Tuesday so YAY, I have a four day weekend. And I’d really appreciate it God, if you don’t think it too facetious or disrespectful to ask by way of blog, that on at least one of those days we get some sunshine? And that you could send all the rain up to my mum and dad, who are now hand watering their trees again? And maybe some to the Murray Darling river system which is turning into dust and / or nasty acidic billabongs as we speak (type)? And maybe some to inland Tasmania which, contrary to it’s drippy muddy cold climate rainforest bright dark green image in all the tourist brochures, is rapidly dryng up and turning to dust in the middle.

I’m about done with rain for the moment here … it can go somewhere where there’s someone who actually wants and needs it. Thanks God.

I’ve just spent nearly an hour fooling about on www.wherethehellismatt.com – he’s the dancing man! too funny, too cool, if you check it out make sure you go and check out the other videos … especially the one ‘where the hell is Afunakwa’ … it’s a about the singer in the music used over his dancing vids, she was from the Solomon Islands – very very interesting! Ian, I predict you’ll find it fascinating :) …. or possibly wondrous ;)

I am fully employed … yet I put a job application in the mail today. I guess I kinda figured why not? It’s the job I talked about back on 02/07 …

anyway, guess we’ll see … if it’s the job for me we’ll find out soon enough, if not I’m good where I am … for now.

I’m going through one of my periodic desk clear felling episodes … ie no more piles, no more ‘toaster rack’ full of things ‘to get to’, no more things in drawers, it’s all getting done, finished, moved on, put away, or thrown out. I’m finalising procedures and writing up my job calendar …. so if I leave it’s all done, if I don’t leave I’ll be SUPER organised and probably won’t actually have to think for the rest of the year.

I found the taps I’d like for our house yesterday …. and also some sinks (and got prices on those). You have to hunt hard to find the sinks … I like sinks with a draining board on both sides, and the majority of sinks you see these days only have a draining board on one side … I guess that’s because most people have dishwashers and do little washing up? WE will have a dishwasher … but we’ll also be on tank water, and things will be air drying … and it’s a good place for messy prep work when cooking as well …. anyway, smaller houses as well I guess, and ours is going to be large … not full of rooms but very spacious.

It’s all fun!
