Latest pic, taken last night, 300309
we have some! They’re on pallets beside the ‘house’ … but they’re there, and that’s quite encouraging
We also have rather a large number of lights (well, we’ve paid the deposit!), all the internal door handles, and I have a new pair of cute purple shoes
This is because we went to Hobart on the weekend for above purchasing purposes, visiting of friends, and the delivery of the parents in law for the official viewing of Mr Tasmania’s 10th great … nephew, in this case … who’d have thought I’d have 10 great nieces and nephews at 38? Even by marriage? Amazing.
It’s very exciting, and I think I’ve also decided on the paint for the walls and ceilings. How hard can it be you ask? Jump on any search engine, type in low sheen acrylic w*ll paint, and see what you come up with, then get back to me. Can we spell PAIN IN THE BUTT? Anyhoo, worked it out, now just gotta save up and buy it … I can’t bring myself to put paint purchasing on the mortgage when I know I”ll be repainting those walls ie buying more paint, well before the mortgage (and original paint purchase) is paid off … so will have to save the pennies and buy it ourselves
Had dinner Friday night in a fabulous cafe in North Hobart, named something czech (4 glasses of red wine too, yummy!), amazing tapas, fried haloumi, paprika potatoes, garlic mushrooms, trio of dips, something else I can picture but can’t remember name of, great chatting with good friends, beautiful!
And I’ve stocked up on socks … if you ever ever come to Hobart you MUST go to the Sal*manca Markets on a Saturday down at the docks – they are FABULOUS. I could literally spend all day there … I didn’t, but I have ambitions!

This says it all
of footings
21/03/2009
Hi Kerensa
FYI – and anyone else’s
– footings are structural bits and pieces of concrete, which encase ‘reo’ (reinforcing wire – very very strong), on which the building rests, and which anchor it to the ground. These are the bits which are rectangular in the photos. We also have big round bits of footings which are nearly a metre into the ground, as our house is being built on a slope .. houses and buildings need anchors .. which is why you see those enormous holes when skyscrapers are being built – most of that (once you get below car park level) is just concrete.
1 – Thai Beef Salad trial – is successful
Thanks to Deeleea for a good recipe which I tweaked a bit and it was a triumph! Hooray!
2 – Dad’s knee… 5 days in and he’s gotten over his low blood pressure/heart jump dramas and is doing fine on just Panado*l! Amazing!
3 – The Amazon is doing okay, still in a lot of pain from the shingles, but now on very strong drugs so is able to sleep.
4 – Mum – coping well .. KombiBro is off with the kiddies at a church camp so it’s just her and THe Amazon, which will make for a nice calm house (and reminds me I should phone her before 9pm or she’ll have gone to bed!)
5 – the house – we have footings! And there are some pictures below

who is at the moment dealing with a husband who had a knee replacement on Tuesday, a massive low blood pressure episode on Wednesday morning, a heart jitter this morning, and who is now back in High Dependency so they can monitor him. He’s actually fine, they think it’s just a reaction to his pain killers, but it’s pretty stressful for her because … she also has my brother (KombiBro), and his wife (The Amazon), and their two kids (The Sherriff and The Deputy) living with them … which is great, except that KombiBro is away tonight for work and the poor poor Amazon has come down with Shingles in the worst possible way and is in amazing pain.
Mum says she’s fine and it’ll all continue to work okay as long as she gets a decent nights sleep.
I’m just hating being 1200km’s away… even though there’s not muchI can do for The Amazon or dad and I know they’ll both be completely fine before too long… still ….

Yes, I know I’ve said it’s started before …. and it has, but not just with things I could take photos of – you really didn’t want to see photos of the bank statement rapidly dropping … well, maybe you would but I thought it would be boring!
but NOW it has ACTUALLY STARTED – yes, there are profiles! THere are builders trailers! There are string lines and mysterious markings on sticks! And the flipping thing looks ENORMOUS!
My mum says you always think you’re building the Opera House when they do profiles, all of a sudden feel like you’re going to be living in something the size of a public loo when they dig the footings and put up some frames, and then all of a sudden, when the walls go up and the roof goes on, you feel like you might be building something vaguely house size …. so it’s okay really.
But it’s begun – WE’RE BUILDING A HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just accessed my flickr account – the Tasmanian Fire Service has made some of my photos favourites! I’m a bit surprised .. and a bit flattered actually!
