just got back from hospital – father in law carted off in an ambulance earlier this evening – they don’t really know but he’s stable and in ICU.
Probability is that it is an infection that was exacerbated by a dye injection scan he had today… he’s 88 years old so that’s another dimension.
More positive than negative though – he was on the ball enough to tell the mother in law to make sure she turned the electric blanket off
of painting
30/08/2009
one whole room painted, including two very large windows, and all skirting boards, only 1 board to be undercoated and top coated but this was a recent addition for the built in wardrobe so I don’t think it counts. I’ve done all MY stuff in the room anyway
Have almost finished the garage door jamb (finishing off the bucket of paint) and many windows are masked up and ready to go.
Mr Tasmania has almost finished architraving and skirting our bedroom – he ran out of architraving so has painted up another 8 lengths and will move them over in the morning before work and then finish it off after work tomorrow. I may or may not go up and paint (I have a flex day) depends on how much work I get done at home … I’ve got a load of washing on now though so that’s one of tomorrow’s things already off the list – I reckon I’ll get up there after lunch – every metre painted is a metre closer to moving in!
Lovely parents in law brought up a bilge pump to help empty out the unused as yet(!) septic tank – it’s been sitting beside our shed steadily filling up with rain so needed to be emptied and turned over. They also brought up morning tea which went down a TREAT!
Stormy Weather arrived with wife and child – just back from 2 and 3 months in the UK respectively – was great to catch up with them and they were really excited with how far the house had come
The Country Singin’ Tiler has officially finished tiling the walls of the en suite, bathroom, laundry and toilet, and will be grouting them tomorrow. Then it’s on to the floors and he’s done. Due to a delivery mishap and a slight change in plans of ours (ie deciding on tiled shower bases rather than plastic) we will not have enough tiles to do all the floors – however, we have decided to use a combination of the two sizes of matt cream wall tiles to do the toilet floor – and I’d have to say I’m actually pleased it’s worked out this way. Our blue floor tiles are not really that dark BUT the toilet is small, as toilets generally are, and the cream tiles will brighten it up a lot. My blue cupboard which is going in there will also look better against cream tiles AND, before you tell me they will show the dirt more, I’m okay with them showing the dirt more – to me, I’d rather know that the floor of the toilet is dirty and clean it rather than either thinking it’s clean ’cause I can’t see any dirt against the blue OR cleaning it every five minutes … ’cause I can’t see any dirt against the blue so will clean it just in case. So, the cream will be good for my sanity if nothing else

Very satisfying day at the house – at least when it’s apparently permanently raining you don’t actually have any wish to be outside ….. architraving, bag of plaster/putty/wood dust weighing at least 3kg’s vacuumed up (seriously!), masked up a heap of windows ready for painting tomorrow, brought 3 crates, 1 large box, 4 vacuum bags, 1 small stripey bag, and a random small bag up from the parents in law’s garage to the shed ….
What started out as a crappy day has ended up a great day .. and I’m finishing it off with a glass of 3 Bridges Durif – a variety of grape I have not tried before – a lovely solid fruity red, a nice change from my favourites – Merlots, CabSavMerlot, Cab Sav, etc (are you sensing a theme?). I do like to try new wines, whites, pinks, sparkling, not a fan of the dry wines of any colour, but I do tend to veer on back to Merlot … oh and the odd Shiraz

My gorgeous husband surprised me with a present yesterday – from offcuts of the huon pine log that our internal stairs are being built of (from?) he has hand carved me a deep bowled spoon and made a beautiful chopping board for our new kitchen.
Talented, gorgeous, and thoughtful – what else could I need? They’re currently in the pantry in the new kitchen – the first items (other than tools) that have been put in the kitchen!
And here are some photos:
Laundry tub with tile skirting and ’splashback’

Architrave/skirting waiting to be painted – thank goodness it’s pre undercoated

First window/room architraved and skirted

First bathroom wall tiled (no grout yet)

So, tomorrow we’re off to putty and sand and paint architraves and skirting boards and door jambs and doors and more architraves … and a few other jobs as well – hopefully we’ll get a few moments of sunshine while we’re doing that

Jetstar sucks, don’t ever trust a booking you’ve made with them. I made a booking 6 months ago which would’ve allowed us to do the two hour drive from work in good time to get to the airport for the only flight they had on the day -after work.
I have now been informed via email that the flight has been changed to the middle of the afternoon – who on earth flies on a WORK DAY in the middle of the afternoon?!!!!!
Idiots – I’m thinking lots worse words …..
So, Mr Tasmania will have to take a carers day to look after his wife who is having a massive hissy fit! I’ll take a half day of annual leave.
It will actually suit us better ’cause we’ll be able to meet friends for dinner in Sydney – but that still doesn’t mean it’s right or fair!
Jetstar SUCKS!
anyone wanna a dog? cheap? ie free? smelly farts thrown in gratis?
I’m thinking you could have the husband at this point, ’cause he just thinks it’s funny … life’s great with a stinky dog when your nose doesn’t work!!!!!

who can architrave and skirting board like a maniac
.. one bedroom completely done, just waiting for me to mask it up and paint the second coats on on the weekend. Second bedroom arced/skirted and puttied – sanding tomorrow and then it’s ready to go. He’ll then start on our bedroom.
By the time I got up there he was nearly done with today’s jobs so I went and started painting the next 8x 5.4 metre lengths of architraving. He arrived to help me with those and we left the block by 7,30pm – not too bad really, were glad to get home and make/eat out tacos – it was 6.4deg C at 5.45pm so I’ve no idea what temp it was at 7,30 – flippin’ cold would be my guess!
Satisfying to get all that done though, we’ll have heaps done by the weekend – every metre painted, every nail put in, every little bit sanded is just that much closer to moving in!
in other news, my new office furniture at work has gone in and I’m now working in a purpose designed work space, that actually looks new and clean and professional – hooray! Life truly is much easier when everything is organised and ‘nice’!
of sore toes
23/08/2009
Prayers would be appreciated for Mr Tasmania’s feet if anyone has a moment … he (very rarely now these days) gets stress related gout in the toes on occasion – and he has it now.
Stress because of being tired and having spent three days with school children 24/7 doing the rock eisteddfod in Hobart (ie not here!) and thinking of the house and trying to work as well and all that sort of stuff – not stress at horrible bad things happening – ’cause basically life is pretty good!
He just needs a brain break poor love – and that’s a break away from doing stuff not a breakdown!
I don’t get gout I just get snippy … progressing to snarky … then to shitty …then to being an outright bitch …. but I’m not there at the moment, apart from the sore head where he hit me with the door (laundry I think) and a sore knee from wearing boots for too long (Blundstones) I’m great
well, which part of my day did I enjoy the most? The bit where we discovered that the tiler loves country music? And American country music at that?
Or the bit where he played it (loud!) for two solid hours – and I swear it was all the same song!?
Or the bit where it took me nearly two hours to tape up and paint a window which, seriously, is only about a metre square … ’cause every five minutes I had to get down the ladder to carry something, move something, find something, give an opinion on something, or show my mother in law through the kitchen (that part was okay – she liked it!)?
Or the bit where my husband and the tiler appeared to be competing to see who could use the loudest tool – drop saw, compressor, tile cutter, hammer in confined space, etc etc etc … I’ll include the CD player in that list too!
Or the bit (this is my favourite) where I was called away from the window (again!) to help husband take a door off it’s hinges – and he then proceeded to HIT ME ON THE HEAD WITH THE DOOR!
I’m just really really really glad that in all of that I finished the window (including sanding putty etc) and did some other stuff (including helping husband nail on the first of the skirting boards) and I can see where I’ve been.
And now I’m a home smelling lamb and red wine casserole – yay for the slow cooker!
of husbands and architraving and mates
22/08/2009
very very happy to have Mr Tas home again from three days in Hobart with the school kids (competing in the Rock Eisteddfod) – missed him very much! Don’t like being ’single’ anymore, had far too much of that!
I have been painting architraving today – 8 lengths of 5.4 metres, 2 sides and 1 side (back obviously doesn’t need doing) – 2nd coat will go on after they’re installed (if you’re ever building order your architraves pre undercoated – I really couldn’t imagine having to do these three times – 400 metres of architraving!).
Just had a great hour on the phone with The Valkyrie – really good catchup, we used to email each other every day and chat on the phone and see each other at least twice a week – miss that!
